The purposes of the Union are to:
- promote cooperation amongst phoniatricians in Europe
- promote the scientific and the professional development of phoniatrics
To achieve these goals the Union:
- organises scientific and professional meetings and congresses in European countries
- appoints committees for special purposes
- maintains a website that puts out information for its members and for the general public
- acts as the representative of its members on medical and non-medical scientific and professional corporations and in public
- cooperates with other medical and non-medical organisations.
